Smart City in the future

With the growth of population, economic growth, increased greenhouse gas emission and decreased budgets, people search for a new mode of city to increase efficiencies, reduce costs, and enhance quality of life. Smart city is described as a city use information and communication technologies (ICT) to be more intelligent and efficient in the use of resources, resulting in cost and energy savings, improved service delivery and quality of life, and reduced environmental footprint–all supporting innovation and the low- carbon economy.According to Gordon and Shane(2012), a complex mix of players has emerged in a worldwide Smart City movement. Different players has different sight of the city, but most agree on a common vision: make cities smarter and more sustainable.

There are many examples of smart cities in the world, like Tokyo and New York. It is remarkable that Vienna is one of top 10 smart cities in the world as well as the only city that ranked in the top 10 in every category: innovation city (5), regional green city (4), quality of life (1) and digital governance (8).According to the website explain, Smart City Vienna looks at a cross-section of the city, covering all areas of life, work and leisure activities in equal measure, and includes everything from infrastructure, energy and mobility to all aspects of urban development. Planners of Vienna are incorporating the stakeholder consultation process into the development and implementation of carbon reduction, transportation and make the city a major European players want to change land use planning techniques of smart cities.
