Gender discrimination is prejudice or discrimination based on a person's sex or gender, which affects both men and women, but primarily women(wikipedia,2015). It is reflected in many aspects, e.g. working inequality, education inequality, political inequality etc. People with gender discrimination against women believe that male is intrinsically superior to female.Extreme sexism may foster sexual harassmentrape and other forms of sexual violence(Wikipedia, 2015).

Gender inequality in India can be directly reacted on sex ratio. In the Population Census of 2011 it was revealed that the population ratio in India 2011 is 940 females per 1000 of males. According to the video above, a great number of girls are killed before birth, due to patriarchal ideology. Many cultures have different degrees of discriminating female. In indian history, gender discrimination does not exit alone, the more serious problem is caste system. After independent of India, these discriminations have been in remission. The following illusion indicated that north India had lower birth rate of girls than south in 2011. Meanwhile, the south region also had better economic environment. The more developed area, the less discrimination.

Recently, a documentary film called  India's Daughter causes the world's thinking. It talked about the story of the rape and murder of Jyoti Singh Pandey, in Delhi, which has been banned from broadcast in India by the national Government. Rape has become a kind of ordinary state in India, these surviving girls have to face security problems. In the movie,  one of offenders stated that girls still
outside at night without families meant that these girls were bad and should be punished. They were heroes to teach girls. It was a kind of morbid thinking, reflecting female subordination.Rape is just one aspect of gender inequality, several feminist movements in India has been launched to awaken people's consciousness. It is difficult to image how the situation goes, but with the development, it will be better than before.
